Stella McCartney is the seventh exceptional woman to be featured on our International Women’s Day countdown. As this year’s theme is #BeBoldForChange, we wanted to highlight a few of our favourite women who were not only bold for change, but achieved it.
What’s not to love about Stella McCartney? A lifelong vegetarian, animal rights activist and supporter of PETA, this iconic British designer is one of our favourites. She is vocal about her beliefs too, and seamlessly fuses fashion with activism in all her work. None of her designs use leather, fur, feather or skins, and she is dedicated to educating people about the environmental, as well as ethical issues surrounding the use of animal products. Not only does she talk the talk, she also provides information and resources for leather alternatives on the company website.
Stella is an ambitious and fearless designer, and her work can be found everywhere from the tennis courts to the Oscars. Throughout her career she has garnered an impressive number of “Best Designer” awards from boards across the world, and her personal activism has also been recognised in many ways, including that she received the Woman of Courage award for her work against cancer. She is a truly dedicated animal rights designer, and has also received Organic Style of the Year Award and Green Designer of the Year. Most notably, McCartney was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2013 New Years Honours for her contributions to the fashion industry.
As a brand committed to animal welfare and the environment, we at Bijoux Indiscrets can only say: what an inspiration!
